Catalogue

The Stained Glass in Wales Catalogue provides an illustrated searchable database of thousands of windows across Wales.

It was originally launched in 2011 as a development of the Imaging the Bible in Wales database (AHRC-funded 2005–8), including the stained glass that was recorded as part of that project. This material was augmented in 2010–11 with medieval stained glass, more contemporary work and stained glass with non-biblical themes that was beyond the scope of the ‘Imaging the Bible’ project. This additional cataloguing was funded with the help of the University of Wales Welsh Industries Fund, the Pilgrim Trust, the Garfield Weston Foundation and the Friends of Friendless Churches.

The resource has continued to grow, with additions and improvements funded by the Glaziers Trust and the Gibbs Trust.

For many years the site was hosted by the National Library of Wales at https://stainedglass.llgc.org.uk but the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies now provides hosting for the resource at https://catalogue.stainedglass.wales. We would like to acknowledge the ongoing support of the National Library of Wales, and the invaluable technical support provided by Nigel Callaghan since the inception of the resource.
